The haughty person sets himself above others, and ultimately above God. When we are haughty, we become the center of our universe; everything revolves around us. A haughty spirit or having haughty eyes means that we look down upon others in a condescending way. We think more highly of ourselves than we should. This is where we look scornfully, disdainfully, or almost arrogantly at others. The expression “looking down our nose” at someone applies here.
